New Halls Head Vinnies shop looking for volunteers

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

A 54th Vinnies shop opened in Halls Head two weeks ago with huge support from the community.

As one of the first tenants in the new Commercial Centre on Rutland Drive, Halls Head, the premises has already brought in many locals that are excited about the shop’s location, pricing and quality of clothing. On opening day there was a flow of customers coming through the door and a constant queue at the counter, which kept shop volunteers and staff busy.

With such a successful opening day the volunteers and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to making a positive change in the Halls Head community. Halls Head manager, Amanda Albert said, “for the volunteers and myself it was exciting and a little overwhelming but everyone had a great day”.

News of a Vinnies shop opening on the Halls Head side of the bridge has generated a lot of positive feedback from the public and volunteers. Already being nicknamed the ‘Manhattan Vinnies’ Amanda said, “most of the op shops are clustered on the other side of the bridge so a lot of customers have said it is fantastic we are in this location”.

One of the Vinnies Volunteers at the new op shop is Kerrie Davis, who said this was the first retail type industry she has worked in since she was a kid. “This is my first Vinnies and first op shop. This role makes me feel engaged, productive and a part of giving something back,” Kerrie said. “To people who are thinking of volunteering I would say just give it a go. It is worth it.”

A number of locals who have visited the Vinnies Halls Head shop decided to volunteer right then and there. “I just had people knocking on the door constantly asking if they could volunteer,” shop manager, Amanda said. “A guy I was helping get down a hat also decided to apply to volunteer right on the spot.”

Vinnies Halls Head shop is still looking for more shop volunteers who are keen to devote time to make a difference in their community. Amanda said, “We still have room for more volunteers so I’m hoping some young people will apply because aside from being a fun place to work, it is a great way to learn skills they can put on their resume”.

Volunteering for Vinnies is a rich and rewarding experience. As a volunteer you’ll benefit from the satisfaction of helping others, learning new skills and a sense of community.
