By giving up one night of comfort, you can give hope and support to the growing number of Western Australians who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. Vinnies is inviting families, friends, community and business organisations to experience the hardship of having to sleep in their car for one night only on Friday 18 October 2019 for the Vinnies Drive-In Sleep-In.
Every night more than 9000 Western Australians experience homelessness; of these people 3656 are young or children, and specifically 1493 are children under 12 years of age. People who experience any type of homelessness can face judgement and social disadvantage which impacts a person’s ability to find the support and resources they need. This can mean barriers to medical care, employment and education, making it difficult for people to break out of the cycle of homelessness that they may find themselves in.
The Agency Managing Director, Paul Niardone, says the Vinnies Drive-In, Sleep-In brings awareness to an often under-represented issue that many people do not often associate with homelessness and social disadvantage.
“I think this is a great event to showcase and demonstrate that just living on the street is not the only form of homelessness and a lot of families do it tough living in cars,” Mr Niardone said.
The valuable funds raised will go towards assisting over 50,000 Western Australians with access to food, clothing, emotional support and accommodation assistance.
Bring along your colleagues, friends and family to not only enjoy two drive-in movies but to also leave with a greater sense of empathy and understanding for people experiencing social exclusion and disadvantage. Give a night to change lives as without support like yours, Vinnies wouldn’t be there for people when they need it most.
The movies on the night will be:
Disney's "Toy Story 4" Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame"
This event is proudly presented by The Agency Group – a leading disruptive, high-growth real estate agency.
